Recently many older fashion trends have been coming back into style whether they are bell bottoms, low rise pants, mom jeans, or bubble-sleeved tops. As the seasons change, there will be many new and exciting styles for spring 2024. Will more trends be brought back or will there be completely new, never-before-seen designs? Let’s take a look at some projected trends for 2024 fashion using major fashion magazines.
Fashion designing is an extremely competitive industry because trends are constantly changing and going in and out. There is no guarantee that a designer’s piece will be chosen so in that manner it is a game of luck. However, if old trends are to be trusted it will show that many of the same trends are recycled every 20 years or so. That is why now you see 30-40 year olds on social media talking about how the clothes they used to wear are all the sudden coming back and becoming popular again. For 2024 fashion, that would mean styles from 2004 should be coming back. This has already started because more Y2K era pieces are being sold in stores.
According to Vogue, this spring will include its regular florals, specifically roses, as well as many summer-inspired pieces. The first item likely to be seen in Spring 2024 is white dresses with sheer materials. Designers are calling for “freedom of the body” with this type of design. These designs look like they could be very modern wedding dresses for 2024 brides. Open-work materials are also becoming popular; this means the designs will have cutouts, embellished mesh, or other techniques exposing skin in the pieces.
Another new style is inspired by Edward Scissorhand. Edward Scissorhands is a classic movie starring Johnny Depp in which the titular character has sharp scissors instead of hands. These pieces were designed with the idea of Edward Scissorhands in the room swinging his hands around and cutting up the clothes. The statement of these pieces is again “freedom of the body” and showing more skin. Undercover aprons and polo shirts are also becoming very popular on 2024 runways. This choice was inspired by the idea of making clothing more practical and a renewed interest in work clothes like cargo pants.
Vogue also features designs with different waistlines. Now designers have waistlines coming up to just below the chest. The last couple of designs Vogue has seen includes more feathers and metallic materials. According to Vogue, the feathers are representative of a sort of angelic feature, whereas the metallic materials are to represent the 2024 Olympics.
The fashion designs of 2024 according to Cosmopolitan are fringe, draping, no pants, sweats, low rise, and peplum. This does not crossover very much with what Vogue has seen on the runway. Taylor Swift has been wearing a lot of fringe in her Eras tour, and this may be what has inspired this style for 2024. No pants and low rise designs are very much in opposition to what Vogue has seen with the very high waisted pants. The idea of sweats and draping is also very at odds with Vogue because they were seeing more exposed skin in their designs compared to Cosmopolitan’s looser and higher coverage designs. Cosmopolitan offered less information about their predicted female fashion trends so it makes sense that Vogue’s trends would be more trusted.
The Spring 2024 fashion season is sure to be exciting and full of other surprises, so keep your eyes and wallets open to get ready for some Spring shopping!
