The movie “Michael” is a biography on the life of Michael Jackson, A famous pop star in the 1980s. The movie was released into theaters on April 24, 2026, and has been very popular prior to and since its release. The movie is rated PG-13 and has a 39% critic score and a 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. At 2 hours and 10 minutes long, “Michael” has been the center of attention in the entertainment industry.
The movie begins during Michael’s childhood, where he begins his career as a young star in a band that he was in with his brothers called the Jackson 5. The main focus of this scene is to show the turmoil around Michael’s youth, between his abusive father and his yearning to be around normal children and make friends. As Michael’s career takes off, we see the focus shift from the Jackson 5 as a whole to strictly Michael Jackson, as his growing popularity makes him somewhat of a superstar. Michael’s fame is able to earn the family enough money to allow them to have the finer things in life. Michael begins his journey to break away from the family and go on his own path as a solo singer and songwriter. As Michael successfully drops his own album and goes on his own tour, the frenzy around him only intensifies, which is very well portrayed in the movie through camera angles and lighting. The movie ends with Michael at the prime of his career in front of adoring crowds.
It appears that people have varying opinions of “Michael”; however, I feel that most have a positive verdict on the movie. West Morris Mendham Junior, Sullivan Meyer said, “I really enjoyed the ‘Michael’ movie. I thought that the music was really good, and I liked how the soundtrack was in chronological order for the most part.” The attention to detail in this movie was immaculate, especially when it comes to the music. The entire soundtrack of the movie is purely Michael Jackson songs, primarily his greatest hits, and it follows the chronological order of his career and life. Despite the incorporation of songs that Jackson fans know and love, the movie also allows for both longtime Michael Jackson fans and people who have never heard of him before to be able to follow along and understand the movie very well. Sullivan Meyer remarked, “I wouldn’t say that I’m a Michael Jackson fan, I’ve of course heard of him before, and I knew some stuff about him going in…I would say that I enjoyed the movie regardless of prior knowledge, it was very entertaining and just fun to watch.” Overall, Meyer said that he would rate the movie a 9/10, saying, “I really enjoyed the movie, I thought it was really good, but I didn’t like how it ended so abruptly. I think I would have liked a little more closure at the end, other than that it was a great movie and I would definitely watch it again and recommend it to others.” Despite the abrupt end, many viewers hope that this is a sign that there will be a sequel to the famed movie.
The movie’s incredible success proves that Michael Jackson was able to achieve his dreams and be one of the most famous pop stars in history, even beyond the grave. With hopes of a second movie in the making, I don’t think we’ve heard the last of Michael Jackson for a long shot.
