Artist Interview: Emma Schaberg
December 4, 2018
Emma Schaberg, a junior at West Morris Mendham, first started drawing when she was only a few years old, beginning with doodling stick figures and moving on to comic book art from there. Now, she works mostly with acrylic paints, though she dabbles in ink, watercolor, and oils as well–her favorite medium being ink and watercolors.
When asked about what inspired her, Schaberg answered, “I’m inspired by my grandpa, who was an artist as well.” She also cited her parents and friends, who have supported and encouraged throughout her artistic journey, as inspirations. As for what first inspired her to begin drawing, Schaberg said, “I was first inspired by watching animated movies, such as Disney, and wanting to create things just as beautiful.” With that inspiration, Schaberg began drawing faces, focusing on honing her skills in bringing people to life on paper in the early years of her drawing.
As for her opinion on art classes, Schaberg explained her feelings by saying, “I feel art classes very helpful for letting me improve and get critiqued. I like the support everyone gives each other, and my teacher gives great advice to help me improve my work.” She also added that her skill and confidence as an artist is partially thanks to the many art classes that she has taken.
Schaberg clearly possesses amazing talent, and she plans on further improving herself by attending art school for college, with a major in computer art and animation.
