Girls Varsity Cross Country

Girls Varsity Cross Country

Ava Flores, Staff writer

Cross country is known for being one of the most physically and mentally demanding sports in the world. At Mendham High School both boys and girls varsity cross country have a reputation for being one of the best teams in the state.  Since the fall season began, the girls varsity team has had a total of three meets. Unfortunately, the team has not won any of those meets however, the season is not over. COVID has impacted all sports to some degree and has placed specific restrictions on the girls cross country team.  The team is mandated to wear masks at all times except when running and there are no team tents at the meets. Additionally, while traveling to the courses the girls have had to sit six feet apart on the bus which is different from previous years where they can bond with their teammates on the way to meets.

All courses have their level of difficulty.  According to some of the players, the hardest course is located at Holmdel, New Jersey. Due to the pandemic all championships have been canceled except for sectionals which is disappointing to all of the cross country teams and fans. The goals for this year’s 2020, cross country team is to have fun and enjoy the experience and time they have together. Some of the teams to beat this year include Middletown South and Colts Neck. The Mendham girls cross country team is looking to win sectionals especially against Middletown South. We wish the best of luck to our girls cross country team here at Mendham. We cannot wait to see them bring home that sectionals trophy!
