The Varsity Football Team

The Mendham varsity football season is well underway. With their 0-2 record, the team continues to persevere and surely will not go down without a fight. Last Friday, the team played their first home game of the season against Montville High School. After Montville lost the previous week, the team was hungry for a win against the Minutemen. According to a writer for Morris Sussex Sports, George Muha, Mendham always plays Montville tough. However, the varsity team lost 0-38 with a mere total of 68 yards (60 passing, eight rushing). The previous week, the team played against Parsippany Hills, losing 0-21. With two interceptions and four turnovers, the Minutemen fought until the end.

As stated on NJ.com, starters such as Declan Mckevvit (slot receiver and tight end/defensive end) and Frank Kontely (junior quarterback) play a major role on the team. Other returning players, including Chris Falzarano, “taking his first full-time spot as the Minutemen” running back and defensive back, plays a key role on the team. Being his fifth season with the team, coach Brett Ressler continues to push the team day after day.

The Minutemen will face Chatham this Friday, who lost against Morris Hills 33-13 last Saturday. As reported by highschoolsports.NJ.com, Mendham won the past four times against Chatham. Once in 2019, once in 2018, and two other times back in 2013 and 2012. As the team’s week three game rapidly approaches, things are beginning to look up for the Mendham high school varsity football team.
