Mendham Basketball vs. Delbarton Recap

Joey Puzino

On Friday the 14th of December the Mendham Minutemen traveled over to Delbarton to play the opener of the 2018- 2019 season. Unfortunately, the Minuteman suffered a disappointing loss against the Green Wave in a thrilling four quarters plus overtime, the score was 61 – 58. I was able to sit down with one of my peers, Hunter Johnson, who explained the details and the upsets of the game. The game started out strong, but the Minutemen were not able to close out as they had a 13-point lead at the beginning at halftime because of star junior athlete T.J, Garrison was able to hit a buzzer-beater three-pointer. The team looked steady and ready to compete, to go as the winners and having extreme bragging rights against one of our rival schools. The game started to get close as Delbarton was able to come back from their 13-point deficit and had every student in the crowd on their tippy toes. Johnson explained, “One of the big men, Jackson Losee, was playing an outstanding game, but eventually fouled out towards the end and brought upon a huge factor.” Delbarton eventually caught up to the Minutemen and won the game in overtime by just a 3 pointer. This sent half of the crowd home happier than ever and the other half looking forward to the next game. A junior who was at the game and known for his “hype” in the fan section, Mike Ricciardi, gave an overview of his feeling on the loss to the green wave. Ricciardi stated that “It felt like the world has ended but the season has just begun.” The team looked good and hopefully will be able to travel far into the county tournament and even bring a new banner home to the Mendham gym. January 24th is the next date to look for as the Minutemen will start their revenge game against the Green Wave. Let’s go Minuteman!
