Every tackle, every pass, every catch, and every touchdown has led to this moment. A game filled with high stakes to keep every fan on the edge of their seat. On Sunday, February 8th, the Seattle Seahawks will face the New England Patriots at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. The game will feature he 2nd youngest player to make it to the bowl versus a vet looking to prove himself to the league after his poor playoff performance last year. A Patriots team that fought tooth and nail to make it all the way after having a 4-13 record last season. A Seahawks team looking for redemption after the infamous Malcom Butler interception in Super Bowl 49. The Patriot wanted to get a pulse on what Mendham students were thinking about this big game. In a survey emailed to Mendham students leading up to the big game, asking who they think would win the Super Bowl, we got these results:

On Seattle’s side of the ball, students Maxwell Bordonaro and Celia Kearns stand with the 54.9% of Mendham High School that believed the Seahawks would win. Maxwell thinks that Seattle can get their momentum moving early on in the game with Rashid Shaheed on special teams. Maxwell commented, “He [Shaheed] will have some sort of explosive play that really boosts the Seahawks and puts them ahead against the Patriots.” With Zach Charbonnet being injured, he said Kenneth Walker III will step up, “as seen with his big game against the Rams.” Celia Kearns also agrees with Maxwell and thinks the Patriots will most likely get shut out because they haven’t truly proved themselves this season, having played only 2 teams with over a .500 record. Whereas the Seahawks have played higher-octane teams, she claimed, “they beat the Rams and 49ers.”
Meanwhile, 45.1% of Mendham students side with New England, and students like senior Devon Gray think that the Patriots have proven themselves this season. Devon said, “[The Patriots] have been doing well with Kayshon Boutte and Stefon Diggs.” He mentioned that while they had an easy schedule, they still put up big scores against some ofthe teams. He believes the MVP runner-up, Drake Maye, will make explosive plays connecting with his receivers, Kayshon Boutte and Stefon Diggs. He also remarked, “I think giving it to TreVeyon Henderson [will be beneficial] because he’s got a lot of speed [running] around the outside. I just don’t see these [Seahawk] safeties and corners having that much speed like him.”
These teams have worked tirelessly to make it to where they are. Both have what it takes to win, but it just comes down to who wants it more. Make sure to tune into the Super Bowl to find out who is victorious in this heated matchup.
