With less than a month until the 2021 British Music Award, there are a few things that have recently been announced regarding the awards. This year’s BRIT Awards will be hosted by Jack Whitehall. This will mark Whitehall’s fourth time hosting the award show. Speaking to The Sun the comedian spoke up about his feelings towards his upcoming hosting duties. “It really is always an honour to do it,” he

explained. “But this year feels even more special. I must be doing something right to be invited back. In the same interview, he went to speak about how even though the odd year we have all had, this award show can be seen as a turning point in the whole Cornoavirus pandemic, saying how it would be “marking a moment in time where we begin to move back towards live music, which we have all missed. I think everyone is desperate to be back having those experiences, and everyone has done so incredibly well to get us to this place.”

While the awards, taking place on May 11th at the O2 Arena, will not resemble what they have in the past, people are working to make them feel as normal as possible. This includes performances. So far, only two performers have been announced: Dua Lipa and Griff. Dua Lipa hasn’t performed at the BRITs since 2019, but following up on an extraordinary Grammy’s performance, the expectations are high. This is going to be Griff’s first BRITs. The 20-year-old performer was actually nominated for the ‘Rising Star Award’, and a few days ago, was announced as the winner. Speaking about her win, Griff made a statement following the events: “In my head, I’m still screaming from the phone call when I found out. It’s honestly such a miracle – how on earth did we manage to win a Brit and breakthrough during a pandemic?”

As it has been in previous years, the BRITS will be aired on ITV, presumably at the same time as past shows. With the announcement of the nominees, the reality of the 2021 BRITs is setting in. As the awards quickly approach, it’s time to dust off that dressy outfit in the back of your closest.
