The Mendham girls JV basketball team has started this season off very strong. Ursula Lagana said that “The season has been going really well, we are undefeated so far”. With Covid, the basketball team started way later than usual on January 13. Since they started this late the team really had to work hard to catch up on all the missed time. Lagana also said that “ The games really helped bring our team together and made it easier to gel in such short period of time” The JV team was able to beat Morris knolls, Parsipanny Hills, and Mount Olive. These wins are a very good way to start this season off. The JV team “consists of freshmen, sophomores, and juniors and we all get along really well”.

Lagana also gave some information about how basketball rules have been affected by the Coronavirus. She said, “We have to wear masks during practice and stay six feet apart when not on the court but during games we don’t have to wear a mask”. The length of the season will also “be shorter due to covid”. Lagana also said that “wearing a mask while practicing isn’t that bad and that I barely even realize I am wearing a mask sometimes”. It’s good to hear that wearing a mask isn’t that bad for the athletes and doesn’t affect them too much. Lagana also went into talking about the JV coach Ms. Welles, she said that  “She always knows what we need to work in based on our games which is why we are so successful”. The JV team is so successful because of Ms. Welles and how much she can help the team get better. Mendham Girls Basketball still has until the end of February to go. So hopefully Ms. Welles and the JV team can end the season with a win just as they started.
