Girls Basketball

Girls’ basketball will be extremely different due to Covid-19. All winter sports are being pushed back and that includes girls’ basketball. The gym is only allowed to use up 12 percent of the room’s capacity. As of now, spectators will be prohibited due to the Coronavirus. Girls basketball was originally supposed to start in December but very recently that date has been changed for the better. Even though winter sports will not be starting at the beginning of December at least they won’t be completely canceled. Ms.Klimowicz the Head Girls Basketball coach has been communicating with all the athletes through Google Classroom. Even though Athletes aren’t able to do any in-person activities Ms. Klimowicz has been posting workouts in the classroom so athletes are able to get some exercise during this dead period.

Governor Murphy has changed the start date of Basketball to January 12th. This has just been recently determined by Governor Murphy. Governor Murphy “has made it clear that he wants high school winter sports to be played, based on the significant mental and physical health benefits they provide and in recognition of the seniors who desire one more season of the sports they love” (My Central Jersey). Governor Murphy has made it clear that winter sports are vital to athletes and that he wants all seniors to enjoy their last year being a high school athlete. Murphy has also expressed that he “hope and intend to see the winter sports season in January. I want to see, especially that high school senior, get to play her or his last season” (CBS New York). With Murphy expressing that we are hopeful that winter sports will take place. Girls Basketball along with other sports is eager to start back up and want to make sure that they can.
