After three years of marriage, Cardi B announced through her Instagram that she had filed for divorce. Although the couple has had a complicated past, many believe that this time they will actually go through with the divorce.

Cardi B and Offset romance rumors first sparked back in February 2017, after they attended the Super Bowl together, but during this time the two announced they were just friends. Later on, in May, the two collaborated on a single for one of Cardi B’s mixtapes, as well as the music video. After various rumors about a possible relationship, in October 2017, Offset stopped in the middle of a concert and asked Cardi to marry him – and she said yes. Though not long after things started the relationship started to go downhill and fans became very skeptical. That December, Offset was caught in the middle of a huge cheating scandal after videos that appeared to show him in bed with multiple women surfaced. Although he refused to talk about it, Cardi responded to the rumors through her Twitter saying, “This s**t happens to everyone.” It took a while for the rumors to calm down, but not long after they did, in April 2018, Cardi B announced her pregnancy on Saturday Night Live.

Although their relationship has had many surprises, many fans still consider Offset’s June 2018 BET Awards announcement the biggest. Offset shocked everyone during his speech, referring to Cardi as his wife. Later on, through social media and interviews, the couple confirmed that they had been secretly married for months. Less than a month later, the married couple welcomed their first child together, Kulture Kiari Cephus, on July 10th. The following December would be the first time that the couple says they split. Both said nothing happened between them and that they had just grown apart, but only weeks later Offset made a huge public apology asking her to take him back. After not getting any updates from the couple for a couple of months, Cardi B referred to Offset as her husband while accepting her award for Best Rap Album. After getting a lot of backlash from fans and others, Cardi came out in December 2019 in her interview with Vogue, explaining that she loved him enough to try to work through the problem.

That brings us up to September 2020. Early September, Cardi announced that she had already filed for divorce, unlike the first time around when they just said they were going to. She explained that there was no cheating involved, and that they grew apart and that she was just tired of arguing. Although Cardi said that there was no cheating involved, many fans have their doubts considering Offset’s past not only with Cardi but with his past relationships as well. According to an article by USA Today, Cardi is looking for legal and primary physical custody of their daughter, as well as equitable division of their marital assets and for Offset to pay both child support and her legal fees from the divorce.
