Girls’ Basketball: Coming Back in More Ways than One

After a difficult first two games, Mendham Girls Basketball has rallied to win 5 out of 9 games.

Wow, what a comeback! After their first loss to Central, many believed that Mendham would triumph in a rematch. This sentiment proved to be correct as, on December 29th, Mendham beat Central 46-36. Captain Joey Meyers carried her team, scoring 19 points, followed by Lexi Naval and Shannon Timoney, who both scored 8 points each. With Joey Meyers being the only captain, and also being only one of two seniors, she is given a lot of responsibility. Clearly, she is able to rise to the occasion and is fortunate to have a strong team behind her.

The girls also held a very successful first alumni game where former players supported the current team in their game against Montville. “The alumni game is about helping players recognize that they are part of more of the community than they are the program itself,” Coach Klimowicz explained. One important former MGB player in attendance was Molly Creamer, who became the all-time leading scorer at Bucknell and played overseas professionally. Irene Margiotta, a 2015 graduate, said “That the game was fun to watch” and that “this team is young and talented.” Margiotta enjoyed reconnecting with her former teammates and coaches the most.

The next home game is January 24th at 7 – come & show your support!
