Running until April 29, 2025, the Morris County Arts Commission kicked off a revival of their annual student art show that began in 1988. On April 3rd, the community was invited to attend an awards ceremony at the Atrium Gallery at 10 Court Street, although all students’ work will continue to be on view and can be accessed on weekdays or when the building is open.
The last show took place in 2023 and has only grown since then; from the original 1988 version with about 90 artworks, this year’s show has approximately 500 since no restrictions were placed on the number of submissions entered or the type of school that could submit. The entire show was adjudicated by a panel of local artists and government officials from Morris County. Here’s how Mendham did:
In the Pen & Ink category, Mia Compel’s Blue Spring received an Honorable Mention award, Dylan Parks received a third place ribbon for Sunday Morning in the Printmaking/Etching category, Vivien Zemaitis tied for second place in the Acrylic/Oil/Portrait section for Bass Face, Lindsey Charlotte won third place in the same category for Self Portrait, and Ella Tufariello’s Inner Beauty, Maren Kirby’s Untitled mixed media collage, and Jessey Rejano’s The Heron sculpture were also featured in the show.
This is a great achievement for these Mendham students, especially since they were only notified about the competition hours before submissions were due. Hopefully, next year, Mendham will continue to showcase its talents and demonstrate the strength of its visual arts program.
