Kenny Mayne leaving ESPN

By: Aimee Barsa

Kenny Mayne, a SportsCenter anchor for Espn has decided after 27 long years of working at Espn to leave the network. On May 10th he put out a statement on Twitter which said he is leaving Espn because of a “salary cap casualty” (The Spun). He later told The Athletic that Espn asked him to take a 61 percent pay cut. This news was hard for Mayne to put out because he had a fear that “what if I put out the statement on Twitter and like five people respond? You know, like nobody” (The Union Democrat). Mayne thought people would not care if he left but many fans that  have been watching him since 1994 were very sad about this news. Mayne is one of the best SportsCenter anchors, his humor was rare compared to other anchors which was what made him so special.  He along with other SportsCenter anchors have left companies they have been with for a long period of time due to similar issues Mayne dealt with. One of them being Mike Golic, who had an Espn radio show. Mike Golic and Kenny Mayne both chose to leave Espn recently. Hopefully, both of these entertainers will find something better to do for themselves.
