May 2, 2021
On Friday April 30th, Girl in red released her first studio album titled “if I could make it go quiet”.
In her most vulnerable production yet, Girl in red encompasses all of her darkest and strongest feelings in an eleven-track record. Girl in red, also known as Marie Ulven, has been releasing music since 2017. However, she had not yet released a complete album. On “If i could make it go quiet”, Girl in red collaborates with producer and songwriter Finneas. Finneas has worked with other hit artists like Billie Eilish, Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, and many more. Finneas’s musical knowledge paired with Girl in red’s incredible songwriting and vulnerability resulted in an absolutely compelling album that encapsulates so many feelings that are commonly overlooked in music.
Some highlights on the album include “Serotonin”, “Did you come?”, and “Body and Mind” among others. On Apple Music, Girl in red describes the song “Serotonin”, a powerful expression of her battle with mental illness, as “a weird journey,” and “the lyrics poured out of [her]”. And for the song “Did you come?”, she states that “the entire thing is just a vibe. It’s hooky”. “If I could make it go quiet” even goes to take girl in red’s talent to another level as she taps into multiple genres to create the album’s characteristic sound. According to BBC, girl in red is a genre free artist who taps into many different genres to generate her unique sound.
Girl in red’s characteristic realism in her music has allowed her to connect with so many, and this album is no different. Overall, Girl in red has accomplished something spectacular with this album in her intense emotional vulnerability that speaks to so many.
