Olympic Virtual Series

By: Aimee Barsa

This is the first-ever Olympic licensed event that is virtual for both physical and non-physical sports. These events will be starting on May 13 until June 23 of 2021. This Virtual Olympic series will reach so many new audiences further expanding the amount of Olympic followers. The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) president Thomas Bach said, “The Olympic Virtual Series is a new, unique Olympic digital experience that aims to grow direct engagement with new audiences in the field of virtual sports. Its conception is in line with Olympic Agenda 2020+5 and the IOC’s Digital Strategy. It encourages sports participation and promotes the Olympic values, with a special focus on youth.” (Olympics) World Sailing, World Rowing, World Baseball Softball Confederation (WSBC), Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) are the sports that will be involved in this Olympic Virtual Series. These five sports “will differ in form and concept, and will operate via the sport’s respective publisher platform where participants will be able to take part” (Olympics). All of the events will be on the Olympic channel for fans all over the world to watch. Prizes included in winning these games will be announced soon. One of the main reasons this is even happening is because the Olympics hopes to be involved with video gaming communities. Hopefully this even with help the Olympics to keep accomplishing their agenda.
