Grammy’s Season- and the Music Award Shows You’ve Missed
March 19, 2021
When most people think of music awards and ceremonies, their mind goes right to the Grammys. Although this music award is a huge deal, and deserves a celebration in its own right, there are countless other musical awards that celebrate different aspects of popular music.
One such ceremony is the induction of new members in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In order to be eligible, an artist or band must have released their first record at least 25 years before the time they are nominated (Rock & Roll Hall of Fame). The Hall of Fame itself is in Cleveland, Ohio, and is holding its inaugural ceremony in fall of this year. The 2021 nominees include Foo Fighters, Jay-Z, Rage Against the Machine, Tina Turner, The Go-Go’s, Carole King, and more (Rock & Roll Hall of Fame).
The Billboard Music Awards, or BBMAs, are set to happen live this year on May 23 of 2021 (Alt Press). The nominees are selected through the Billboard Charts, a dynamic comparison of songs, artists, and their changing popularity- Dick Clark Productions even claims these charts are “widely considered to be the ultimate authority in the music industry” (Dick Clark Productions).
The American Music Awards are another big production celebrating new music. They are hosted sometime in November, and involve countless awards, performances, and guest appearances (The AMAs). Some categories include artist of the year, new artist of the year, favorite music video, and favorite artist (with different categories for male solo artists, female solo artists, and groups/duos for each genre) (The AMAs). Truly, there are many more awards shows that deserve recognition for their continuous dedication to modern music.
