Virginia is out of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament

The University of Virginia didn’t end up playing in the A.C.C. tournament. They weren’t able to compete in the tournament because of the Coronavirus. Virginia also had to deal with the Coronavirus in December causing a 10-day pause in the program. Friday morning in a brief press conference the ACC cited “A positive test, subsequent quarantining and contact tracing” causing Virginia to pull out of the competition (NY Times). Someone inside the program tested positive for the virus.  Virginia’s planned semifinal game against Georgia Tech was canceled. Virginia does have a really good history with this tournament, they won the championship in 2019 which was the last tournament teams played in. Since Virginia isn’t allowed to compete in the semifinal game against Georgia tech they advance to the conference championship game. This news is very unfortunate and many teams are dealing with the issue as Virginia. Duke was one of the other teams that were forced to pull out of the tournament due to the Coronavirus. Hopefully, Virginia will get to compete in the NCAA tournament that will be happening in mid-March.
