Ivy League Cancels Spring Sports

The Ivy League schools won’t be having any spring sports competitions in 2021. The league that will not be having any spring sports competitions this year includes Harvard, Cornell, Yale, and Princeton. They chose not to have any sports competitions this year because of a health issue regarding the Coronavirus. The good news is that sports teams will most likely be practicing and participating in local competitions. Forbes got a statement saying “[T]hese are the necessary decisions for the Ivy League in the face of the health concerns posed by the ongoing and dangerous pandemic,”(Forbes). After hearing that they will not be competing with any teams this spring, the athletes will be going a long time without competition. This will cause athletes to wait longer than a year without any competition. The Ivy League schools are set on this decision. “In the Ivy League, these [public health] measures must apply equally to our athletics programs along with other academic and co-curricular activities,” (Forbes) says a statement from the League. The league is going to grant graduating athletes a one-year waiver allowing student-athletes to compete on league teams even if they graduated. This is good news for those athletes who are graduating this year. Allowing them to play even if they have graduated gives them a chance to experience their last year as student-athlete.
