Sarah Fuller is an athlete at Vanderbilt and is a part of the women’s soccer team. Fuller, a senior is a goalie for the team and was asked to be a kicker for the football team. She practiced had the opportunity to practice with them. Fuller made history when she was able to be on the roster. Fuller said, “You can’t expect it to be easy. It’s never going to be a straight shot” (CNN). Sarah Fuller had to put the work in to be the first woman to play in a Power Five college football game. On Saturday, November 28, Fuller had her debut when Vanderbilt faced the University of Mississipi. This was such a historic event that Fuller has been nominated for the courage award. Fuller got a lot of recognition from people like Carli Lloyd, Russel Wilson, and Lebron James. She put a lot of hard work into becoming the first woman to be in a Power Five Football game that has allowed her to receive the recognition that she said she “never thought my name would be on their Instagrams or social media at all” (CNN).

Having a woman be a part of a men’s football team inspires so many young women out there. This gives young women something to look up to and aspire to be like. Fuller even put on the back of her helmet “play like a girl” to send a message to young women. She wanted to make sure she represented all women throughout the world and she wants people to know that “if it’s something you really want to accomplish, don’t let those down moments and barriers hold you back from what you want to achieve”(CNN). That message is very important to all people and has inspired many. Fuller will continue to make history and break more barriers.
