When you think of pomeranians you think of how small and fluffy they are, but don’t be fooled by their size and their foxy features, Pomeranians are small dogs but have the personality of a big dog, according to Dogtime. Pomeranians are descendants of the German Spitz which are bigger than Pomeranians, but carry some of the same features as Poms.  According to Wikipedia, Pomeranians are classified as a toy dog breed because of their small size. An adult size Pomeranian weighs between three to seven pounds. Even though Poms are small they still require a thirty minute walk and need a well balanced diet due to their sensitive stomachs.

Let’s talk about their beautiful fluffy coat: it needs daily brushing, however Pomeranians don’t shed like other dog breeds. Therefore, they are perfect for someone who has allergies. An interesting fact is that Poms were not always small. According to FiveMinuteHistory, they weighed about twelve pounds when Queen Victoria got her first Pomeranian in 1888 and fell in love with Pomeranians. She then later ended up with four Pomeranians.

Pomeranians are very intelligent and loyal to their family, and Pomeranians get along easily with other pets. Poms are not very good at being alone, and they sometimes get separation anxiety from not being with their owner or family.  According to Dogtime, Pomeranians are not recommended for families with young children because they are small and delicate and can get injured if not properly handled. Since Pomeranians are small, they are great for small living spaces like apartment buildings. Pomeranians are small but their bark is fierce and loud, which might annoy your neighbor, but they can be easily trained with commands. Further, Pomeranians are very intelligent small dogs that can be trained as hearing assistance dogs.

Ultimately, Pomeranians are a great choice for anyone who wants a great companion, and who likes the small size, with the large dog attitude. As funny as that may seem for their size, Pomeranians are great watch dogs as they are always alert and fiercely loyal. Their playful nature will be sure to always make your day.
