On Wednesday, October 21st the Mendham girls soccer team played Montville. The game took place in Montville at 4 o’clock. Mendham started the game very strongly scoring a goal within the first minute. The second goal for Mendham came soon after the first goal. Only ten minutes in the Mendham girls soccer team was winning 2-0. Mendham gained a strong lead very quickly which wasn’t expected going into this game. This lead allowed Mendham to control the first half comfortably. The team was able to create many chances but they weren’t able to gain a lead larger than 2.

In the second half, Mendham was getting a little too comfortable which allowed Montville to gain a couple of chances. Montville was able to score in the second half which caught Mendham off guard. Once Montville gained one goal they were able to get another goal. 20 minutes into the second half Montville evened up the score making it 2-2. Even though Mendham scored within the first minute of the game Montville was able to catch up and make the score tied. Mendham Bench was motivating the team by screaming “Let’s go Mendham”. The Mendham bench was a vital part of the game because of how much they cheered on the team by also saying “Let’s get one Mendham”. With the score being 2-2 someone had to get a goal but sadly Mendham wasn’t able to by the end of the second half. Since the game was tied up it had to go into overtime. In overtime, the first person to get a goal in two ten minute halves wins the game. Mendham had 20 minutes to get a goal and regain control of the game. Ten minutes go by and the score is still 2-2. Mendham needsed to get a goal in the next ten minutes to win the game. Thankfully Kate Duffy scored a goal causing everyone to start running over to her while screaming “Good job Kate”.
