Everything We Know About “The Mandalorian” Season 2
October 16, 2020
SPOILER ALERT: This article contains spoilers for The Mandalorian Season 1.
With the launch of the Disney+ streaming service in November 2019 came The Mandalorian, the first-ever live-action Star Wars series. To say the first season was a success would be an understatement. The Child (aka Baby Yoda) became a household name almost overnight, and a merchandising goldmine. Disney+’s format of releasing one episode of their shows a week kept viewers engaged and talking about The Mandalorian. This month, the second season will begin. While we don’t have much information regarding the plot of the upcoming episodes, let’s go over what we do know.
The second season of The Mandalorian will begin releasing on October 30th. The main cast will return: Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian (whose real name is Din Djarin) himself, Gina Carano as Cara Dune, Carl Weathers as Greef Carga, and Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon. Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed, it has been heavily rumored that Rosario Dawson will be playing Ahsoka Tano, a beloved character from The Clone Wars and Rebels animated series. Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett and the clone troopers in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith is also rumored to be returning, playing the legendary Boba Fett. If true, this would mean that the bounty hunter survived his encounter with the Sarlacc Pit in Return of the Jedi. Other rumored cast members include Timothy Olyphant, Michael Biehn, and Katee Sackhoff.
Though we do not know the exact details of the plot, there are some things we can gather from the ending of Season 1 and the trailer for Season 2 which was released on September 15th. At the end of Season 1, the Mandalorian was tasked with returning The Child to his people. Whether this means the Jedi or fellow members of Yoda’s species is unknown. Until this point, the name and homeworld of Yoda’s species have remained a mystery. In Season 2, the Mandalorian will be attempting to find The Child’s “people” and of course, it won’t be a smooth journey. It seems as if everyone and everything is out to get Baby Yoda, especially the remnants of the Galactic Empire.
As stated above, Season 2 will begin streaming on Friday, October 30th. The season will contain eight episodes and will conclude on December 18th. Aside from the information above, most of the details regarding The Mandalorian Season 2 is shrouded in mystery. Fortunately, we only have a two-week wait until the first episode. As the Mandalorian himself says, “This is the way.”
