Best in Netflix: Quarantine Edition

During these challenging times, what better is there to do than sit on the couch and binge Netflix? Over the past few weeks Netflix has been releasing new and exciting series and movies for people to enjoy. After some late-night viewing and careful calculations, here are the top three must-watch shows on Netflix. Before revealing the shows, please keep in mind that these results are from the week of May 3rd, and new shows are constantly taking over the charts.

Coming in at number three is Dangerous Lies. The show tells the story of “a broke caregiver [who] unexpectedly inherits her patient’s estate, but dark secrets swirl around her newfound wealth, tangling her in deceit and danger.” Starring Camila Mendes, most well known for playing Veronica in Riverdale, and Jessie T. Usher this show was bound to make an impression. Critics gave the show middle to well ranked reviews; most saying it was a classic mystery show that was very easy to binge, perfect for quarantine. 

Taking the number two spot is Hollywood. A period piece set “in post-World War II Hollywood, [it follows] an ambitious group of aspiring actors and filmmakers [who] will do almost anything to make their showbiz dreams come true.” Darren Criss and Ryan Murphy, who had previously worked together on GLEE have come together again to put together this star-studded show. Jim Parsons, best known for Sheldon from his time on The Big Bang, joins Criss and Murphy on the show. Along with well known TV actors, iconic Broadway actress Patti LuPone is a part of this production. Receiving a 78% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, this limited series is a must-see in the coming weeks.

Now to reveal the top Netflix show… drum roll please. Coming in at number one is Outer Banks. The show is centered “on an island of haves and have-nots, [where] teen John B enlists his three best friends to hunt for a legendary treasure linked to his father’s disappearance.” This classic teen drama entertains viewers all over America, keeping them on the edge the entire season. Chase Stokes, the star of the show and a newcomer to the acting scene, made a big splash with critics and viewers alike. Through their relatable teen characters and engaging plot, Outer Banks was able to earn themselves an 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. With such a catapulting start to their acting careers, these teens are sure to make a big splash in the years to come.
