Mendham wrestling would lack precise statistics without the contributions of Charlie Jurist, Brynn Gambuti, and Olivia Kollar. Charlie has been responsible for wrestling statistics since her freshman year, motivated by her genuine enjoyment of the role, stating, “It’s actually entertaining once you really look past like all the bad stuff about it.” Olivia and Brynn became involved in their junior year at Charlie’s invitation, with Brynn having prior exposure to the sport through her sister.
I asked about the advice that could be offered to an individual contemplating the role of a statistician for wrestling. The responses varied; Olivia remarked, “It’s really stressful” and Brynn suggested, “Be open to being friends with them. They wanna be your friend.” Wrestling statistics significantly influenced their high school experience, and they eagerly anticipate these events each day, fostering new friendships. “We complain about it in the moment, but then like I literally have such a connection with each other, they’re just so fun to be around. There’s never a dull moment” Brynn exclaims.
Regrettably, these young women are in their final year as seniors, which marks the conclusion of their involvement in statistics. They are keen to have individuals step forward to assume the responsibility of wrestling statistics in their stead. “PLEASE JOIN!” the girls say to the students of Mendham High School collectively inviting their younger peers to participate next year. Reach to Mr. Baig if you are interested in this position for next year.
