Loughlin and Jade Return to the Screen
October 19, 2021
Lori Loughlin and Olivia Jade have returned to the screen after their hiatus following their 2019 college admissions scandal. Loughlin will reprise her role as Abigail Stanton on the second season of “When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas” and Jade is a contestant on the 30th season of “Dancing with the Stars” with the show’s veteran Val Chmerkovskiy.
According to today.com, Giannulli and Loughlin paid “$500,000 in order to help their two daughters gain admission into the University of Southern California.” They paid William “Rick” Singer to ensure their daughters’ admission to the university as fake rowing recruits. “In August 2020, Loughlin was sentenced to two months in prison. She was released last December. Giannulli, meanwhile, was sentenced to five months in prison and released in April.”
Despite the backlash that Loughlin originally faced, their fans, producers, and co-workers are letting bygones be bygones. According to yahoo.com, “…Lori’s co-star Erin Krakow…shared a photo of herself hugging Loughlin…” and her excitement for Loughlin’s return to “When Hope Calls” exuded out of the photo. Additionally, after fans addressed Loughlin’s absence in the show, producer Brian Bird agreed that “…Hope Valley should be an example of forgiveness….” She will appear in the spin-off “When Calls the Heart”, “When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas.” According to Fox News, this will be her first appearance on television since 2019 after being fired from “When Calls the Heart” and “Fuller House.”
Not everyone is as welcoming of Jade’s appearance on DWTS as they were of Loughlin’s return to “When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas”. “Olivia Jade still getting big opportunities after being involved with a crime is proof that rich white people can get away with anything,” tweeted Black actress, director, and “Harriyana Hook” YouTuber Nicole O. Johnson.”
Allison DiLaurentis tweeted, ‘I got wrapped up in a scandal….’ Olivia Jade, you did not get wrapped up in a scandal you were the scandal #DWTS.”
Not only was her presence itself angering fans’ rumors that she had immunity and couldn’t be eliminated was a source of anger according to Mercury News. Executive Rob Mills quickly shut down the rumor, according to cinema blend.
Rose McBride tweeted, ‘I think I’m best known for being an influencer.’ Nah, we all know what you’re best known for, and it’s not that.”
Jade hopes to create a new reputation for herself through competing on “Dancing with the Stars” and showing the world a new side of her. Although it may be a long time until the college admissions scandal associated with Jade and Loughlin go away, it appears fans are willing to forgive the pair.
