A Tribute to Christopher Plummer

Christopher Plummer passed away at the age of 91 from a blow to his head after a fall. According to Deadline, he passed away peacefully with his faithful wife of 53 years, Elaine Taylor, in his home in Connecticut. The Canadian actor is best known for his roles as Captain Von Trapp on the Sound of Music, Beginners, All the Money in the World,The Last Station, and one of his final roles before death was in Knives Out according to the LA Times. According to NPR, he revealed that the Sound of Music “…is not [his] favorite film, of course, because [he] [does] think it borders on mawkishness…” He had a long and successful 70 year career with many awards for his work including two Emmys and two Tonys. He was formerly the oldest person to win an Oscar for his role in Beginners (deadline.com).

He began his career as a radio host in Montreal and had his first debut in New York in 1954 in the play The Starcross Story according to deadline. He won his two Tony’s from his roles in Cyrano and Barrymore and devoted his life to the theater as well as on-screen. According to the LA Times he said, “How boring it would be to be just one thing — just a movie actor, or just a stage actor — when you can just keep going from one to the other.” He has had nearly one hundred tv appearances and many more nominations for his wonderful portrayal of an array of roles. According to deadline his friend and manager, Lou Pitt, says “Chris was an extraordinary man who deeply loved and respected his profession with great old fashion manners, self-deprecating humor and the music of words. He was a national treasure who deeply relished his Canadian roots. Through his art and humanity, he touched all of our hearts and his legendary life will endure for all generations to come. He will forever be with us.” This wasn’t the only tribute to the talented actor; many more actors including his co-star Julie Andrews, Daisy Ridley, and Chris Evans paid their respects to the actor. Christopher Plummer will be deeply missed by many and always be remembered for his incredible acting and dedication to his career.
