Interview of Musical Talent Kiril Hadjipetkov

Kiril Hadjipetkov is one of Mendham’s premier artistic talents, performing live and recorded music for the community. The junior’s music is well known throughout the school and is respected by his friends and peers. I wanted to know more information regarding Kiril’s talent so we arranged an interview to explore my questions. The information provides an in-depth look into his earlier musical career and some of the inspirations behind his passion.

  1. How would you describe ur music? (genre, instruments, influences, etc.)
  1. I would describe it as a mix of indie/alternative, with a little bit of surf rock too. I grew up listening to bands like Nirvana, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, so I try to have their energy and catchiness, and nowadays I have been listening to a lot of more alt bands like The Growlers, and Together PANGEA. I also like rap, and I sometimes try to make trap style beats or instrumentals for songs but I haven’t figured out how to sing or play guitar over them.
  1. When/why did you start doing the type of music you do today?
  1. I started playing guitar in sixth grade because guitar solos looked dope to play, and then I just stuck with it. I started writing songs around two years later and then in high school formed a band with some friends and we have some recordings that are going to be released soon.
  1. What does music do for you and why are u drawn to making it?
  1. Music does a lot for me, it definitely energizes me and hypes me up, and I mainly just think it’s one of the coolest things humans have invented. I’m drawn to making it because I really want to do the same thing to other people and have them enjoy something I create. Also, I really want to start playing some live shows even at parties because the energy is really one of the best things about music.
  1. If not music, would you turn to other methods of expressing yourself? Things like drawing or other more conventional art?
  1. I’m not really good at art, music is really the only outlet of “expression” I have I guess. I feel like one day I want to get into making digital art and videos similar to what skate brands like RipnDip do, but right now I am just focusing on music because I want to be the best at it that I can be.
  1. Do you have a favorite personal piece and if so what differentiates it from others?
  1. I guess my favorite song I wrote so far is called Only One, and the reason I like it so much is that when I was writing it, I wrote about an important subject to me, about a friend that was going through a lot, and
    1. Do you feel like there is an inspiration for your music or does it simply come naturally to you?

when I wrote it, it was one of the first times I actually really liked what I did. Also, when I showed it to my band, the other guitarist/singer Rhys (Heraghty) immediately came up with a fire guitar part that I think really made the song come together. Also, these songs have a connection to me, Rhys and everyone else because they are the first songs we ever recorded, we made two demos on my computer, and they are gonna be released in the next week or so which is really cool.

    1. There is definitely an inspiration for my music, all of those bands that I said before are huge influences, and I also really like bands like The Smiths, Twiddle, Slightly Stoopid, the list goes on there are so many different types of music that I like. Another big influence is Rhys because listening to songs that he writes and brings to the band give me ideas on things that I want to try.
