Kyler Murray: Heisman Winner
Every year the National Collegiate Athletic Association grants one amazing, outstanding, and great person a Heisman Trophy for their playing on and off the field. The trophy goes to the best and most successful player out of every college in the association. For the second year in the row, it went to an Oklahoma quarterback that displayed brilliance in their passing, rushing, and winning abilities. In 2017 it was given to Baker Mayfield, as he was then drafted first overall to the Cleveland Browns, and has been having a great season compared to another quarterback in the National Football League. In 2018 the new Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray won the Heisman trophy over many great candidates for the trophy. Many people believed Murray was not deserving of the trophy over the candidate of Tua Tagovailoa the exciting quarterback from Alabama. The last candidate, Dwayne Haskins from The Ohio State University, did not foresee
as the favorite for the trophy, but he was able to break the long-standing record of passing yards in the Big-10 conference held by the leading NFL MVP Candidate of Drew Brees.
The trophy will be in the hands of Oklahoma University for the second time in a row, which brings upon bragging rights and intimidation against other schools. The controversial pick of Kyler Murray angered fans of Alabama and anyone else who doesn’t have an Oklahoma University flag hanging above their bed. Everyone is upset with this winner since Murray does not even plan on furthering his football career into the NFL, Kyler is playing baseball for the Oakland Athletics of the MLB. Murray from winning the Heisman is set up to be a high draft pick in the NFL because of his talent and personality but is wasting both his college career and all of the other candidate’s chances at the trophy. Murray won the Heisman for different reasons, but mostly because of the change he can bring to an offense and how he can keep a play alive. Murray is known for his speed outside of the pocket and for how well he can play in big games, even known just one year ago he was a backup quarterback. Murray finished the regular season with nearly 5,000 total yards, the even crazier part about that stat is 20 percent of those all-purpose yards come from Murray running the ball himself. He has also compiled an impressive stat of 40 passing touchdowns and 11 rushing touchdowns. The other candidates recorded stats almost the same as Murrays but Murray took the trophy home because he was a known underdog. Dwayne Haskins was a known force amongst college football and obviously displayed it while throwing for 43 touchdowns and 4,580 yards while Tua Tagovailoa had 3,350 passing yards with 37 touchdowns. These stats aren’t as impressive as Murrays and that is just the icing on the cake to his winning to his winning season. If Kyler Murray can have a better career in baseball than he did at Oklahoma, the Oakland Athletics drafted the next Babe Ruth.
