Mendham Field Hockey Update

Mendham Field Hockey Update

Mendham Field Hockey has played three games this season and has gotten off to a solid start with a record of 1-1-1, with a win over Montville, a tie against Morristown, and a loss against West Morris Central.

In the first game of the season, they beat Montville 6-4 in a great offensive game. Megan McIntyre starred in the game scoring three of the six goals, while three other girls added a goal for the Minutemen. It was only a two-goal win but Mendham pretty much led the whole way.

The next game of the season was against a ranked, number 17 in the state, West Morris Central team. The team played very well defensively in this game by not allowing a single goal in regulation play. Both teams headed into overtime locked at 0-0, but unfortunately in overtime Mendham did not play how they wanted. West Morris Central’s Sophia Prata scored the game-winning goal causing Mendham to lose the game 1-0.

In the most recent game of the year, Mendham played Morristown and tied them 3-3. Mendham had a balanced attack on offense with three different girls, Riley Lewthwaite, Megan McIntyre, and Jackie DeRienzo, scoring goals for the team. The standout player of the game was goalie Karina Miocevich as she was able to save 19 of the 22 shots attempted by Morristown. But even with a good game from some players on the Mendham, it was not good enough for the win.
