Famous rapper 21 Savage or Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was arrested by U.S Immigration in Atlanta, Georgia on Sunday February 3 (Variety). There has been a large amount of talk on multiple social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter, accusing Savage of being from the United Kingdom as well as overstaying the terms of his visa. Through Jem Aswad’s article titled 21 Savage Arrested by ICE, May Be Deported, ICE spokesperson Brian Cox, comments on the situation by saying “U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested unlawfully present United Kingdom national Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph AKA ‘21 Savage’ during a targeted operation with the federal and local law enforcement partners… Mr Abraham-Joseph was taken into ICE custody as he is unlawfully present in the U.S. and also a convicted felon”. 21 Savage was a nominee for two different Grammy Awards this year and his lawyer, Dina LaPolt, spoke highly of him in that “We are working diligently to get Mr. Abraham-Joseph out of detention while we work with authorities to clear up any misunderstanding. Mr. Abraham-Joseph is a role model to young people in the country–especially Atlanta, Georgia and is actively working in the community…”. On Savages part, his supporters sound confident that he will be released from custody and that his citizenship for whichever country he belongs to will be reinstalled after a solution is found by authorities, ICE, and 21’s representatives.
