Mendham Floor Hockey

Joey Puzino

Mendham athletics have always been fun to play and watch while in the season but for people who don’t play basketball or wrestle during the winter, they have one thing to look forward towards. Mendham floor Hockey. A tradition seen through many years of high school and starts competitively in Junior year, and will stay with the student until they graduate. The end of the year may end the era of intense and competitive floor hockey with the retirement of the famously known gym teacher Mr. Titlebaum. As many know when a student is in floor hockey with Titlebaum it is easier to bend the rules and have a more competitive league while he is in charge. That’s what makes the game fun while having Titlebaum as your teacher, one of my classmates, Kevin Howard, had a couple of comments about floor hockey and how it will change. Howard stated that “ That it’ll be different from T- Baum, I’ll miss him, he made the sport fun to play and enjoy, but I definitely plan on furthering my career in floor hockey when I am a senior,” when asked how will the retirement of Titlebaum affect his floor hockey career. I was able to sit down and interview with a floor hockey captain in a different class of Titlebaum. Tristan Navarino, a Junior is known for his talent in Mendham Wrestling, exclaimed that “Gym floor hockey is a big part of my day and when I realized this would be my last year with Titlebaum as the teacher I was a little hard broken.” As many can see from these two talented players that floor hockey is bigger than just a gym activity, it’s a competitive, gritty, and aggressive sport on school days.
